What is Prayer?

Billy Graham said:
“Prayer is spiritual communication
between man and God,
a two-way relationship
in which man should not only
talk to God but also listen to Him.”

That being the case, which I believe it is
Surely we should be speaking in Tongues
CONSTANTLY…

My native language is English
But is praying with my understanding
More effective than using a heavenly language?
Is it that we have a “Trust” problem with God
As we do not know what we are saying
When we Pray in Tongues?

Now obviously God speaks to us
In our own language so that we can
Understand Him
But how often should we use our
Own language when talking to Him?

In cases of emergency:
“Jesus HELP!”
Is a good prayer

Or even just simply:
“HELP!”

However, most of the time when we Pray
It is in a conversational way
And YES we may choose to do so
In our own language

But does it not presuppose that WE know
What WE should Pray for
And WE know HOW best to do that

Is that not us being a bit arrogant?
After all, He IS God and we are NOT

Or maybe look at this another way…
WHY has God given us the gift of
Speaking in Tongues?

Is it simply to prove that we
Have been baptised in the Holy Spirit?

Is it to use (hoping and praying)
When we are ministering to people
That God, might hopefully, help us
And it gives the impression of us
Being REALLY holy?

Or is it simply a language that we
Can use to communicate with Him
So that we can actually PRAY along
With Almighty God
“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our
weaknesses. For we do not know
what we should pray for as we ought,
but the Spirit Himself makes intercession
for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”
(Romans 8:26)

Surely Praying with God His way
Is more likely to be effective and productive
Than relying on our way in our own understanding.
