What happened on that first walk

And so I went for an early morning (5:30am) walk
A bit like today actually
Lovely clear, blue skies
But COLD
Very cold
Just above freezing

But I didn’t really notice
The cold or the time
Or even the distance that I walked

What I did notice
Was what was around me
Nature!
The grass and the trees
The hedges and the fields
I started to SEE what had always been right in front of my eyes

And yet even though that has always been true
I NEVER saw them before
Simply because I had never really paid attention

And God started to “blow my mind”
Open my eyes to SEE
To marvel at His creation
And in a simple, sweet voice
He started to talk to me

Now THAT is not strictly true
The bit where I said
“He started to talk to me”
Because He is ALWAYS talking to us
The problem is
That we are NOT always listening

I was “listening”
Because I was “seeing”
What had always been there
And as I saw, I heard Him
And we fellowshipped together

This was the beginning of a new chapter in my life with God
We had fellowshipped before
I was, after all, a Christian for nearly 40 years
And have had a daily relationship with Him
But He was doing a new thing in my life

Isaiah 54:2 says
“Enlarge the place of your tent,
And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings;
Do not spare;
Lengthen your cords,
And strengthen your stakes.”

Many times in my life with Him
He has called me
Challenged me to “stretch out my tent pegs”
To “enlarge the area of my tent”
A picture of growth

Most of us do not like CHANGE
Yet it is impossible to be a Christian and NOT change
And even though we are completely changed, forever
In our spirit – 2 Corinthians 5:17 -18a
We still need to stretch ourselves in our mind – Romans 12:2
And in our understanding – Ephesians 1:18

So I walked
And saw
And heard nature
And Heard HIM
