The Weapons of our Warfare are NOT Carnal – Part 5

“casting down arguments and every high thing
that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought into captivity
to the obedience of Christ”
(2 Corinthians 10:5)

And now the second part of verse 5
“bringing every thought into captivity
to the obedience of Christ”

Now the “arguments”
And “high thing”s
May be “thoughts”
But not exclusively

Arguments and high things
Can be from other people

But it is generally true to say
That we are bombarded with
THOUGHTS

Sometimes our minds can work
In “overtime”
Thinking and rethinking things through
By what we have seen or heard
On TV, in the News
From friends and family
What we may even have read

And again, like Part 4
We need to measure this “information”
Against the standard of TRUTH
Which is the Word of God – the Bible

Thoughts are simply that
A thought
An idea

It does NOT have substance until
We MAKE it SO
What I mean by that
Is that we take ACTION on the thought

Now the action may be totally internal
We think and worry and fret
Which causes emotions to rise
Fear, dread, anxiety, tension,
Quickened heart rate, perspiration…

YES – and all because of a “Thought”

Or the actions can be physical
We may lash out at someone
Or even things, because of what we thought
Or go and do something
Because of the thought

Whatever the situation or outcome
The Bible tells us here
In 2 Corinthians 10:5
“to bring EVERY thought into captivity
to the obedience of Christ”

Or to put it another way
Does EVERY thought that we think
Line up with the teaching of the Bible?

WOW – of course not

Well, it is OUR responsibility
To bring EVERY thought…

Simple really
OUR head, OUR brain
OUR THOUGHTS

But look at the possible outcomes
Of BAD or WRONG thinking
Actions that we might regret

Think of the internal peace
We could have
If ONLY we would control
Our thoughts

“You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.”
(Isaiah 26:3)

All of this is a choice
And it isn’t always easy
Our minds get full of thoughts
And we get concerned

But then maybe we are trying to be god
In the particular situation
Much of what people worry about
They wish to change – but cannot
He, however, CAN – as He is God

So take those thoughts CAPTIVE
And make them obedient to Christ
Walk out our lives in obedience to Him

And this is part of the battle
This is part of the warfare
And as we lean on Him
For help and strength
We can win the battle
For we do not fight carnally
But mightily in God
