The Sower

“Behold, a sower went out to sow.
And it happened, as he sowed”
(Mark 4:3 – 4)

The “sower” did
What sowers do…

He SOWED seed

“The sower sows the word.”
(Mark 4:14)

As far as the parable is concerned
Jesus tells those with Him
That the seed that the sower sows
Is the word of God

“In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.”
(John 1:1)

“And the Word became flesh
and dwelt among us”
(John 1:14)

And the “Word” or the “word”
IS Jesus Himself

Our understanding of the “Word”
Is very important

We cannot just assume
That everyone understands
What we are talking about
Which is why I have quoted
From John chapter 1
Verses 1 and 14

When we go right back
To the very beginning
Of the Bible
In the book of Genesis

We read the creation story
Where God SAID…
He spoke WORDS…
And everything came into being…

So here in Mark chapter 4
Jesus teaches the multitudes
While He is sitting in a boat…

And one parable He teaches
Is the parable of the sower
Who sows “seeds”
Which Jesus explains
As being the “word”

The very “WORD” of God

So let me ask you a question
Or perhaps a couple of questions

What are you sowing?
Are you sowing good things?

Do you realise that everyone
Is sowing “something”?

When we SPEAK…
We speak WORDS…

But are our WORDS
God’s “words”?

Do our “words”
Produce life and health
And well being?

Or do our “words”
Speak of death and destruction?
