The Anointing

“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit
and with power, who went about doing good
and healing all who were oppressed by the devil,
for God was with Him.”
(Acts 10:38)

Why is it that we continually read the Bible
And yet manage to misread what it says?

We read this verse from Acts 10
And think:
“Of course, Jesus was and is the Messiah
He can do all things”

“As God, there was nothing that Jesus couldn’t do”

“We know about His miracles
How He healed everyone who came to Him”

NOW – Jesus DID do all these things
But He DIDN’T do them as GOD
He did them as a man…

Jesus was and is:
Son of God
AND
Son of Man

Philippians 2:5 – 8
Describes Jesus humbling Himself
And taking on human form

So while He lived on earth
He did so as a MAN

But as a MAN He was anointed by God
“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit
and with power”
(Acts 10:38)

In a similar way
WE are men and women
Like Jesus…

In every way
Except He was sinless
And we are not

But just as He was anointed by God
So are we:
“the anointing which you have received from Him
abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you;
but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things,
and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you,
you will abide in Him.”
(1 John 2:27)

And if we are IN Him
Then we too have the Holy Spirit and power
And so can do the same things that Jesus did

We need to STOP and see Jesus
For who He WAS while on the earth
The Son of Man

He was a man and lived as a man
Which is part of the reason why the
Disciples struggled to see Him as
The Son of God…

He LOOKED just like them
Because He WAS…

So why is this so important?
Why am I trying to labour this point?
Because we tend to forget that Jesus
Lived on earth as a man

We always tend to think of Him as God
And since we are NOT God
We cannot do the things that He did

But when we realise that He operated
As a man, while on the earth
Then we can do what He did
With the same Holy Spirit that He had
And the same anointing that He had too
