Silence

Silence, be still, quietness…
Not something we find a lot of today
Busy and noisy is more the norm

But yesterday in church
I found myself being led to be still
And quoted the following:
“Be still, and know that I am God;”
(Psalm 46:10)

The opportunity for silence and quietness
Is found in the Prayer time of a Service

Helping people to focus on God
Quieten their hearts
And listen to Him
In the stillness…

Not something that comes naturally to us
At least, not to most of us
And many are more fond of talking
Than listening to anyone
Not even to God

And yet the Psalmist says:
“Be still, and know that I am God;”

But how can I…?
I don’t have the time…
I suppose I could do…
In a church Service…
But, please, don’t make it too long…
A minute or two maybe…

The silence can be uncomfortable
Our minds wander…
Thinking of things to be done…
People to see…
Places to go…

If we say, profess and confess
That Jesus is Lord as well as Saviour
Then surely it is to our benefit
That we spend time with Him…
Listening to Him…

We so readily teach the importance of:
Quiet Times
Bible Study
Prayer Meetings
Fellowship with other believers

But what exactly are we doing…?
And is, perhaps, the problem
That we are DOING too much…?

And not enough TIME spent…
LISTENING

“Be still, and know that I am God;”
