Leadership is not always understood

“And they went into a house.
Then the multitude came together again,
so that they could not so much as eat bread.
But when His own people heard about this,
they went out to lay hold of Him, for they said,
“He is out of His mind.” “
(Mark 3:19 – 21) NKJV

“Jesus came home and, as usual,
a crowd gathered—so many making demands
on him that there wasn’t even time to eat.
His friends heard what was going on
and went to rescue him, by force if necessary.
They suspected he was getting carried away
with himself.”
(Mark 3:20 – 21) The Message

“Then He came to a house[in Capernaum],
and a crowd formed again,
so [many people] that Jesus and His disciples
could not even eat a meal [together].
When His own family heard this they went
to take custody of Him; for they were saying,
“He is out of His mind.” “
(Mark 3:20 – 21) The Amplified

Sometimes you have to “dig a bit”
To discover what is being said

I have quoted the same section of Mark 3
From different versions of the Bible:
NKJV – which is the version I use myself
The Amplified Version and
The Message – a modern day version

It seemed strange, to me, this statement:
“they went out to lay hold of Him”
(Mark 3:21)
Talking about Jesus
As if “they”, whoever “they” were
Were going to force Jesus
“TO DO” something…

But since Jesus was in Capernaum
Where He was living
The “they” were members of His
Own family…
And “they” heard about the commotion…
The “over crowding” of the house…
And apparently assumed that this
Was another “crazy” thing
That Jesus was doing…

And perhaps, as so often can happen
“They” were more concerned about
How “they” appeared to everyone
Than stopping to ask or consider
What was actually happening

“He is out of His mind.”
NKJV and The Amplified

“They suspected he was getting
carried away with himself.”
The Message

The style of Leadership that
Jesus had was “different”
From anything anyone had
Ever seen before…

And yet He said:
“Most assuredly, I say to you,
the Son can do nothing of Himself,
but what He sees the Father do;
for whatever He does,
the Son also does in like manner.”
(John 5:19)

As sons of God…
We too “do what the Father does”
As the Father, by the Holy Spirit
Of Jesus, lives in us…

So if you are in any form
Of Christian Leadership
Then take heart when people
Misunderstand or disagree
With your style of Leadership

Jesus was misunderstood
So you may be too…
As you are His…

In a way it’s a “backhanded compliment”
You are simply doing what Jesus did
“What He saw His Father doing”…
