John 14 verses 4 & 5

‘And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
Thomas said to Him,
“Lord, we do not know where You are going,
and how can we know the way?” ‘
(John 14:4 – 5)

In verse 4 Jesus said:
“And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

IF Jesus said it
And He did
Then IT IS the truth

Jesus had been with the Disciples
For three to three and a half years
He knew them and they knew Him

But He KNEW them better than they knew themselves
And the same is with us!

Now maybe you are a bit like me
And you want to get to verse 6
For THERE we find the answer

But as I have been writing about John 14
And indeed over these past years
God has been showing me that
The importance is in the detail

Every verse and each individual word
IS important
Nothing is written in the Bible by CHANCE

ALL of the Bible IS the Word of God
And so, therefore, ALL of it is truth
And ALL of it is important

So we need to learn to be patient
And to pay attention to the detail

So: “And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
The Disciples MUST already KNOW where He is going
He would have given them enough clues along the way
During His time with them

Why are we so often so SLOW…?
So slow to pick up on what is really happening…?
We have a phrase: “As obvious as the nose on your face”
IT IS there – but we look straight past it
It has become SO familiar
We no longer SEE it

And so we have another phrase:
“Familiarity breeds contempt”

We need to wake up!
We need to pay attention!
Jesus says: “And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

And remember He started off by saying:
“Let not your heart be troubled;
you believe in God,
believe also in Me.”
(John 14:1)

He has come to us
And we have received Him
Believed in Him and trusted Him
And so we KNOW Him
For He is IN us, by His Holy Spirit

And because of that
We know where He has gone
And we know the way

NOW simple point…to think about
We so often USE John 14 verse 6
As a tool for evangelism
And YET Jesus is talking to DISCIPLES

He is talking to those who already BELIEVE
Remember, Judas has already left – John 13
He is not trying to get us to believe
Because we already DO

So as you read ahead to John 14 verse 6
What is it that Jesus is saying…?
