This particular passage is where my Bible App opens
I rarely look at it
As I am usually going somewhere else
But this morning
I stopped and read it
It’s not that I haven’t read it before
Nor that I am unfamiliar with it
It’s just that I read it this morning
One of the first things that jumped out at me
Was ALL the detail
Then…6 days
He came to Bethany…
(Minor detail about Lazarus – and he was there)
Judas is named as the son of Simon
Details which we so often slip over
But nothing is written by chance
YES, a scene is being painted
Funny, that I use that word – “painted”
The attention is in the detail
Every stroke of the artist’s brush, pen, pencil…
Has purpose…
(And I know you agree with that)
I looked up about Simon
He may have been Simon the Leper
Interesting, I thought
As I had never considered it before
Never thought about Judas’ past
About his family or whatever…
And then this is just so powerful:
“This he said, not that he cared for the poor,
but because he was a thief, and had the money box;
and he used to take what was put in it.”
(John 12:6)
Jesus would have known this FACT
And yet still entrusted Judas with the money box
God’s SUPPLY is so much greater
Than what He gives us
Even though we may waste it
Spend it unwisely
Be selfish – on purpose
His SUPPLY is still even greater
And since His death, resurrection and ascension
His GRACE towards us
Continues to pour out more and more
Regardless as to what we do with it
Because we ARE blessed
