How can people miss the obvious?

“Then the blind and the lame
came to Him in the temple,
and He healed them.
But when the chief priests and scribes
saw the wonderful things that He did,
and the children crying out
in the temple and saying,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
they were indignant and said to Him,
“Do You hear what these are saying?”
And Jesus said to them,
“Yes. Have you never read,
‘Out of the mouth of babes
and nursing infants
You have perfected praise’?””
(Matthew 21:14 – 16)

It is one thing for people to MISS
the wonderful things that Jesus DID
In healing the sick
But to complain about the children
Crying and saying:
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
Is quite something else

Now why do I say this?
And why do I point it out in this way?

Well firstly, this passage is talking
About the chief priests and scribes
Who watched what
Jesus was doing

But it equally can apply to people today
People today read the Bible and MISS it
Or they SEE people healed today
Or are told about people being healed today
And they DO NOT believe…

And secondly, the chief priests and scribes
Were indignant at what the children said…

The term or phrase:
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
Can ONLY be applied to the Messiah

And sadly neither the chief priests and scribes
Nor many people today will acknowledge that
Jesus is indeed the Messiah

For Messiah IS God with us
And Messiah WILL come to rescue His people

But these chief priests and scribes obviously
Thought that Messiah would come in a more
Obvious way
More obvious than the way that Jesus had come

So they wanted Jesus to CORRECT the children
And STOP them from speaking blasphemy
For what they said could ONLY be TRUE
If Jesus WAS the Messiah

THIS seems madness to us
Since we KNOW that Jesus IS the Messiah

Which is why He didn’t correct them…

But just like the chief priests and scribes
There are many today who will not acknowledge
Jesus as being the Messiah
GOD with us

They will think of Him as a good man
A great teacher
Even inspired by God
But NEVER God Himself

Because if He WAS
They would be obliged to serve Him too

So stop for a moment and think
About what and how you believe

Do you truly see and recognise
Jesus as being God?
As such He is the answer to all your needs
He is the only Saviour of the world
Your Saviour…
And you will follow Him anywhere
Where ever He leads you
