Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed

We all like to “Fit in”
We all like to be accepted
We “want” people to like us
We want them to say nice things about us

Our desire, our drive to be accepted can cause us to conform to the pattern of this world
It is so easy to “follow the herd” and be like everyone else

In Genesis 11:1 we read about how the earth had one language and one speech.
The people made “bricks” so that they could build a city with a tower which would reach up into the heavens
And they would make a name for themselves
But God confused them by giving them different languages
Or else they would be able to do anything they put their mind to

Romans 12:2 tells us not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds
The “bricks” of Genesis 11 speak of “uniformity” and conformity
Man’s desire for sameness
Man’s desire for acceptance
The “herd” mentality

In 1 Corinthians 3:9 – 15 we read about how Paul exhorted the people to build upon the foundation which is Jesus Christ
How we build will be tested by fire to see “what sort” it is
Gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw
The “precious stones” refer to diamonds, rubies, emeralds etc.
The inference being spiritual “bricks”

As Christians, we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ
We receive Him and His love for us
And when we truly receive Him, He changes or rather “transforms” us
By the renewing of our minds
We “see” things His way

Being filled with His love and His light, we “shine” before men (Matthew 5:14 – 16)
We DO NOT shine as “bricks” but rather as “precious stones”
We do not “conform” and be like “the herd”
Rather we are “transformed” and shine like “precious stones”Stones which are being built into a celestial city, “the church”, the “bride of Christ”
Rather than a “man made” city of Babel, with “bricks”

So whatever we build
Let it not be by striving to seek acceptance
But rather let us realise we already ARE accepted
And build whatever He leads us to build
Be it gold, silver or precious stones
