Consider the Lilies of the field

Matthew 6:28

When we look at the world all around us, do we actually see it?
Life can be so busy

We rush around working, eating, sleeping…
And for what?

In Matthew 6 Jesus addressed many of these things
But He did it in a way, as usual, by using pictures
He started by talking about fasting, praying, giving
Things that we ALL should do
But not in a legal, “You MUST do” sort of way
But out of relationship with Him

All that we DO is because of Him
The WAY that we DO is because of Him
The REASON that we DO is because of Him
The PEOPLE that we are hoping to bless
Is because of Him

Then He says, “Consider the lilies of the field”
LOOK around you…
What do you see?
When was the last time you STOPPED and “considered”?
When was the last time you TOOK the time?

In the photo that I took this morning
You see the leaves on a tree
(Someone I’m sure could tell me what kind of tree it is)
But what amazed me was the fact that the leaves are similar
They are NOT identical
And yet they are the same “sort”

As I looked at the leaves
I was struck by the fact
And reminded too
That they ONLY could be there because of the tree and its ROOTS
The LEAVES had NO part in their being there
They had NOT done anything to be part of that tree

They simply were a RESULT – FRUIT of the tree
The good things that we strive for
That we try to achieve in our own strength
Come as a result of being IN Him – NATURALLY
Love, joy, peace…
Fruit of the spirit
Health, healing, prosperity, deliverance, salvation

And right at the end of the chapter
In the penultimate verse
Jesus says, “Seek FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness”

So think about stopping
And consider… the lilies, or the grass, or trees, or something in nature
Not because I say so…
But because that inner voice is calling you
Listen to the Spirit within
Because He IS first
