All the Disciples forsook Him and fled

“Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.”
(Matthew 26:56)

“But Peter followed Him at a distance
to the high priest’s courtyard.
And he went in and sat
with the servants to see the end.”
(Matthew 26:58)

The Leader has been taken…
Jesus has been arrested…
“They came with swords and clubs”
“We ran for our lives”

They (the Disciples) had been with Him
Day and night for over three years

“He was the Christ, the Son of the living God
But an armed multitude came and took Him”

“Maybe they want us too…?”

Would we have been any different?
Would we have stayed by His side?

Now I know we have hindsight…
But a multitude…
And at night time…
Probably with flaming torches too…
As well as the swords and the clubs…

“But Peter followed Him at a distance”
(Matthew 26:58)

Perhaps we are too quick
To condemn Peter for his denial

At least he followed…
To see what would happen…

Peter forsook and fled…
Like the other Disciples…
But after thinking for a while…
He returned and followed…
At a distance…
To see what happened next

And as we think on things…
On these dramatic events…
What about Jesus…?

“But Jesus kept silent”
(Matthew 26:63)

“Jesus said to him,
“It is as you said.
Nevertheless, I say to you,
hereafter you will see the Son of Man
sitting at the right hand of the Power,
and coming on the clouds of heaven.” “
(Matthew 26:64)

When He spoke…
He spoke the Word…

And for THAT…
They had Him crucified

Will you speak the truth…?
In love…?
When people come against you…?
For His name’s sake…?
