1 Samuel 16 Part 6

“the Spirit of the Lord came upon David
from that day forward…
But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul,
and a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him.”
(1 Samuel 16:13 – 14)

Saul was still King
And David just a shepherd boy
Who looked after his father’s sheep

And yet for God…
David was now King
And Saul was no longer King

So the Spirit of the Lord came upon David
And the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul

Once again, people would have noticed
Little or no CHANGE in either of the two men
Yet the favour of God had moved

David may not have been fully aware of
What had taken place with Samuel,
When he had anointed him with oil
He knew it was special and probably strange
But may have been oblivious
As to what was happening

Saul, on the other hand, knew that
God had left him
Yet he was still alive and still King
But his power was slipping away from him
As we read in chapter 17 when the nation
Goes to fight the Philistines
And Goliath throws them all into fear and dread

What do we learn from David and Saul today…?
Are we aware of the Spirit of the Lord with us…?
As Christians, do we know the Holy Spirit within?
Do we take credit or give it, for our achievements…?
Do we realise that we are special, anointed of God…?
