1 Samuel 16 Part 4

‘So it was, when they came,
that he looked at Eliab and said,
“Surely the Lord’s anointed is before Him!” ‘
(1 Samuel 16:6)

Samuel reasoned in his heart
That Eliab was the new King
He was convinced of it
Jesse’s eldest son

‘But the Lord said to Samuel,
“Do not look at his appearance
or at his physical stature,
because I have refused him.
For the Lord does not see as man sees;
for man looks at the outward appearance,
but the Lord looks at the heart.” ‘
(1 Samuel 16:7)

This is probably the best known verse in 1 Samuel 16
And indeed well known in the entire Bible

God considers things differently
From the way we consider things

Physical strength and prowess
Mean little in the kingdom of God
How someone has developed within
Is of far more value to God

Do you have a heart of stone?
Hard-hearted towards others
Selfish, looking only for your own well-being
What can I get out of this…?

Or are you soft-hearted?
Tender-hearted, thinking of others
Putting the needs of other people before your own?
What you get out of anything…
Is secondary to how it benefits others.
