1 Samuel 16 Part 3

“So Samuel did what the Lord said”
(1 Samuel 16:4)

Wonderful words!
Samuel was convinced that God has spoken
And he was assured that God was for him
King Saul might try to kill him
But God was with Samuel
Therefore, he did what the Lord said

‘So Samuel did what the Lord said,
and went to Bethlehem.
And the elders of the town trembled
at his coming, and said,
“Do you come peaceably?” ‘
(1 Samuel 16:4)

Samuel was a powerful man in the land
He was a priest and obviously had power
People were afraid of him
“Do you come in peace?”

‘And he said, “Peaceably;
I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.
“Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.”
Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons,
and invited them to the sacrifice.’
(1 Samuel 16:5)

He consecrated them…
Only someone who is holy
Can be present at the sacrifice

The priest, Samuel, was already holy
Because of his office, the position of being a priest
But Jesse and his sons needed to be consecrated
With the oil that Samuel had taken with him
So that the anger and wrath of God
Would not fall upon them

As we are the righteousness of God, in Christ Jesus
We are holy today and so can meet with God
Christ has made us kings and priests
“To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins
in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests
to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion
forever and ever. Amen.”
(Revelation 1:5)
