1 Samuel 16 Part 2

And Samuel said,
“How can I go?
If Saul hears it, he will kill me.
”But the Lord said,
“Take a heifer with you, and say,
‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’
Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice,
and I will show you what you shall do;
you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you.”
(1 Samuel 16:2 – 3)

God is very aware of our FEAR
Samuel was afraid for his life
Saul would kill him
If he knew or even thought
What Samuel was going to do

If Saul were told that Samuel
Was having and making a sacrifice
That would raise Saul’s suspicions
The sacrifice was a heifer
That made the sacrifice special
Samuel had taken oil with him

But God gave Samuel the details
Of what to do and how to act
And what to say – to the people
‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’

Notice how God relates to Samuel

  1. He tells Samuel what He wants Samuel to do
  2. Where to go
  3. Who to go to
  4. What to take with him

Then as Samuel prepares to go
He voices his fears to God
And again,

  1. God tells Samuel what to do
  2. What to say
  3. Who to invite to the sacrifice

And tells Samuel that He will show Samuel
What to do and who to anoint
God will show us little snippets
ENOUGH to believe Him
But remember…
Without FAITH it is impossible to please Him
So He will rarely give us everything
Right at the beginning

God did tell Samuel who to anoint
But ONLY when he was already with Jesse
