1 Samuel 16 Part 1

Now the Lord said to Samuel,
“How long will you mourn for Saul,
seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel?
Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to
Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided
Myself a king among his sons.”
(1 Samuel 16:1)

Samuel and the Lord knew each other
They spoke to one another

The Lord gives a gentle rebuke to Samuel
I’ve got over Saul – when will you, Samuel?

Then the Lord gives Samuel specific instruction:

  1. Fill your horn with oil – for anointing a King
  2. Go to Jesse the Bethlehemite
  3. One of his sons will be King

Not the whole picture
But very clear
Where, who (one of his sons), why – to make a King

And Samuel said,
“How can I go?
If Saul hears it,
he will kill me.”
(1 Samuel 16:2)

Not that strange from us today
BUT what if…?

The “fear of man”

We have a better Covenant
We (as His sheep) hear His voice
We can trust Him
As He is for us and not against us
So FEAR NOT
